Cities that have seen the most success with large-scale fleet transition programs have exhibited internal support at all levels including from the mayor, the office of sustainability and the office of resilience, as well as administration departments including fleet and procurement. Participating cities are encouraged to work with all internal departments to cultivate support within the city leadership to ensure that the fleet deployment is harmoniously implemented. Using the templates, tools, and expertise set forth through this project, participating cities will find ease in developing this support.
The mayor’s voice and decision-making authority will help fleets navigate potential barriers including staff education, outreach and marketing support, and other important but often overlooked elements of a fleet transition deployment. These seemingly small barriers can delay the fleet transition process longer than needed.
